Based in Ontario, Meridian credit union has become increasingly popular since they offer better customer service and lower fees compared to the big banks. What many people don’t realize is that Meridian credit cards are available to all Canadians (except for those who live in Quebec) and one of them is arguably the best cash-back credit card in Canada. Here’s a look at the best Meridian credit cards and what they have to offer.

Despite this, you still get mobile device insurance up to $1,000 as well as Purchase protection and extended warranty which is quite impressive since this is a no fee card.

You’ll also get a comprehensive travel insurance package, but it doesn’t include travel medical insurance package. What’s interesting about this mid-tier card is that you don’t need to have a higher minimum income to qualify, although you do require a good credit score (680-779).

The Meridian Visa Infinite Cash Back Card is easily the best of all the Meridian credit cards and is arguably the best cash-back card in Canada. With this card, you earn 4% cash-back on gas and grocery purchases; 2% cash-back on pharmacy and utility bill payments; and 1% cash-back on all other purchases. This card gives you the same earn rate as the Scotiabank Momentum VISA Infinite card but you get better overall travel insurance and mobile device insurance with the Meridian Visa Infinite Cash Back Card. That being said, Scotiabank currently has a promotion where you’ll earn 10% cash-back (up to $200) for the first three months (until Feb. 2019). Meridian Visa Platinum Travel Rewards Card

You won’t find many Meridian credit card reviews that cover the Meridian Visa Platinum Travel Rewards Card since it’s not a strong travel rewards credit card, but I’m obviously covering everything. The earn rate with this card is 1 point for every $1 spent on all purchases, but you get 2 points per $1 spent on purchases made in a foreign currency. I should note that there are better credit cards without foreign exchange fees so check out my list if that’s a priority for you.

As for Meridian’s travel rewards, it takes 100 points to book $1 in travel which works out to a 1% return. Note that if you’re using your points for merchandise or gift cards, the value of your points is decreased. This card also comes with decent travel insurance, but it doesn’t include emergency medical insurance which is a dealbreaker for me.

Meridian Visa Infinite Travel Rewards Card

  • $99 annual fee – first year free
  • Earn 1.5 points for every $1 spent on all purchases
  • Earn 3 points for every $1 spent on all purchases in a foreign currencies
  • Mobile device insurance up to $1,000
  • Comprehensive travel insurance included
  • Purchase protection and extended warranty
  • Price protection

The best Meridian credit cards list naturally has to include the Meridian Visa Infinite Travel Rewards Card since it’s their best travel card. People like the simple 1.5 points earned per dollar spent on all purchases, but it’s important to note that although you can redeem your points on the rewards site or by phone, Meridian is not a full-service travel agency. That means, that you may not have access to every flight or hotel if you want to use your points when making a redemption. That being said, the comprehensive travel insurance included is excellent and covers you for 48 days if you’re 59 and under, 23 days for those between the ages of 60 – 64, and if you’re 65 – 75 years old, you get 15 days of coverage. It’s also worth looking at my list of the best travel credit cards in Canada since they come with generous sign up bonuses.
