A new American Express Platinum Canada offer is now live. The website now shows a welcome bonus of 50,000 Membership Rewards Points when you charge $3,000 in purchases to your Card in the first three months of Cardmembership, plus an additional 10,000 points after six months for a total of 60,000 points. This is 10,000 more points than the regular offer. This is especially noteworthy since 10,000 Membership Rewards points have a value of $100 so the current sign up bonus is now worth a minimum of $600.
This is significant since the annual fee for the Amex Platinum Card is $699, but wait, you still get the $200 travel credit so you’re getting a total value of at least $800 in the first year. American Express is literally paying you to get this card. Don’t forget Membership Rewards can be transferred to Aeroplan at a 1:1 ratio or to Marriott Bonvoy at a 1:1.2 ratio.
Earn up to 70,000 points with a referral link
Credit card enthusiasts will likely realize that the 60,000 points offer matches the referral bonus of 60,000 points. However, when using the referral, you need to spend $5,000 in the first three months of Cardmembership, so isn’t the new regular offer better? No, American Express is giving an additional 10,000 points after six months when you use a referral link so you can get a total of 70,000 Membership Rewards points. There is NO additional minimum spend required to get that extra 10,000 points, your account just needs to be in good standing.
That means after six months, you would have a minimum of 75,000 American Express Membership Rewards points which is equal to 75,000 Aeroplan Miles or 90,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. There are no details about when this offer will expire so I would advise applying ASAP! Read my American Express Platinum Card review now for more details.
