The WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard is already one of the best travel credit cards in Canada, but they’re making a serious push to get into the hands of more Canadians by increasing their sign up bonus to $350. You need to apply for the card before January 6th, 2020, but it may be in your best interest to apply early since the holiday spending season is coming up. Depending on how much you spend, you can quickly rack up those WestJet dollars.
In my WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard review, I go over why I love this card, but I’ll quickly outline some of the benefits here. Obviously, the new welcome bonus of $350 is a huge win for consumers since that’s an extra $100 you’re getting, but you also get the first checked bag free for the primary cardholder and up to 8 bags on the same reservation. A family of four who are each checking a piece of luggage could easily save $200+ just by having this card.
There’s also WestJet’s famous companion voucher that comes with this card. The way it works is the primary cardholder pays the regular fare, then their travelling companion pays just $99 + taxes when flying within Canada and the continental U.S. If you’re headed to Mexico / Caribbean, the companion voucher goes up to $199 + taxes and routes in Europe will cost the companion $199 + taxes.
Speaking of families of four, if both parents were to get this card, they would have $700 in WestJet dollars (you can use WestJet dollars from two accounts when you call in to make a reservation), and two companion vouchers. Even though each card comes with an annual fee of $119, it’s still worth it since you’re each getting $231 in WestJet dollars for free.
Even if you don’t fly WestJet on a regular basis, this is an incredible offer. You only need to book one flight to make signing up for the card worth it.
