Getting birthday freebies in Vancouver has never been easier. Many major retailers and restaurant chains are happy to celebrate your special day with you, but it does take a bit of planning since you can only eat so much and some of the offers are only available for a limited time.

You could get free birthday stuff in Vancouver by starting your day at Starbucks with a free drink. After you had your morning pick up, make your way to Denny’s for a free build your own Grand Slam Breakfast. If you head over to the Body Shop, you’ll get $10 off. Getting a free burger at Red Robin for lunch is a good value. For an afternoon snack, you can get a free donut at Cartems or Tim Hortons. When you get hungry again, head to Pajo’s for some fish and chips. Since you’re out, head to Papa John’s for a birthday cookie.

As you can see, getting free birthday meals in Vancouver is easy, but you need to be signed up for a lot of newsletters to ensure you get your free birthday coupons. Here’s a list of the best birthday freebies in Vancouver and any conditions to get them. Note that I checked these offers at the start of 2021, but they may have changed since then. I recommend calling the stores before you head out.

birthday freebies Vancouver

The Alley

Bubble tea can easily be stored in your fridge for a few days so heading to The Alley for a free bubble tea should be part of your birthday week celebration. To get your free gift, you need to have the app / loyalty program. The coupon is valid for five days from the start of your birthday.

Arby’s

The Arby’s south of Vancouver in Tsawwassenis one of the few locations left in the country. If you’re in the mood for shaved meat sandwiches, sign up for their newsletter so you’ll get something free on your birthday. Unfortunately, the website doesn’t say exactly what you’ll get, but some people have reported getting a free cookie or snack shake with any purchase.

Baskin-Robbins

Baskin-Robbins has a location in North Vancouver where you’ll get a free scoop on your birthday when you sign up for the Club 31 newsletter. You do need to purchase either a 2.5 oz scoop or 3 oz soft serve cone to get your free scoop. Alternatively, you get $5 off a 20+ cake on your birthday.

Boston Pizza

If you want free birthday stuff in Vancouver, make your way to Boston Pizza for free dessert. This is only available when you sign up for MyBP which is their newsletter. To be honest, it might best to just sign up a week before your birthday as you’ll get a free starter coupon as soon as you sign up and a free individual 2 topping pizza on your anniversary.

Cartems Donuts

One of the most popular birthday freebies in Vancouver is Cartems Donuts. This local chain has two locations and gives you a free donut on your birthday. You’ll need to show your ID to prove it’s your birthday, but that shouldn’t be a problem since you’ll be making the rounds for more free stuff.

Chatime

Chatime may not have any locations downtown, but if you’re near UBC, Park Royal, East Hastings, or Burnaby, you might as well collect your free birthday bubble tea. To get your drink, you need to be a member of Chatime Societea, their loyalty program. I personally recommend getting one of their signature drinks since it already includes a topping. Also note that the terms state you must spend at least $2.50 at Chatime in the last 12 months to get your free drink.

Cora

If you’re going to get breakfast at Cora’s on your birthday, be sure to sign up for their newsletter in advance since you’ll get $5 off your meal as a gift. Note that the birthday offer is not stated clearly on their website, so there’s no guarantee it still exists. That said, Cora loyalty program members do get 3X the points for their birthday meal which is good for 30 days.

David’s Tea

Even though David’s Tea closed all of their locations, they’re still giving you something free on your birthday. Frequent STEEPER members get 5 free points on their birthday. Since you need 100 points to get a free 50g bag of tea, it’s not the best deal, but every point counts.

Denny’s

I would say the best Free birthday meals in Vancouver can be found at Denny’s. When you dine-in, you get a free Build Your Own Grand Slam breakfast. This meal includes eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, and pancakes. This offer can’t be combined with any other deals and it can only be used on your actual birthday. You still need to pay the taxes.

DQ

Over at Dairy Queen, I mean DQ, Blizzard Fan Club members get a free Blizzard on their birthday when they purchase a Blizzard. This BOGO offer is good for any size, so you go for the large size if you love ice cream.

Gong Cha

For those who are looking for free birthday stuff in Vancouver, they’ll be happy to hear that Gong Cha gives you a free bubble tea. You do need to sign up for Gong Cha Rewards and put in your birthday. They’ll send you an email when the free drink is available.

IHOP

IHOP isn’t in Vancouver, but they have locations in Richmond and Burnaby. If you live near there or want to make the journey, you can get free pancakes on your birthday. You need to sign up for the MyHop loyalty program to get this promo. It’s worth mentioning that on your sign up anniversary date, you also get free pancakes. The offer usually shows up one week before your birthday and you get 14 days to use it.

Harvey’s

Harvey’s used to have one of the best free birthday freebies, but it doesn’t seem to be as lucrative anymore. You used to be able to get a free burger, but the special gift on your birthday was a slice of pie with the purchase of a burger. You need to sign up for the Harvey’s newsletter if you want to take advantage of the promotion.

The Keg Steakhouse + Bar

Although it’s not advertised on their website, The Keg Steakhouse + Bar is still giving out a free slice of their Billy Miner Pie for birthdays with a paid meal. This is a dine-in only offer, so you need to let your server know that you’re celebrating your birthday. Also note that it doesn’t have to be your exact birth date if you’re looking to claim your free slice.

Kelly and Carlos O’ Bryan’s

One of the better free birthday meals in Vancouver is found at Kelly and Carlos O’ Bryan’s. You can get $20 off one menu item before 4pm or $30 off one menu item from 4pm until close. This offer is only available on your birthday and you need to bring at least one paying customer. You also can’t use the deal on drinks. You need to show ID to prove it’s your birthday.

KFC

Since KFC has so many locations, you might as well swing by and claim your free popcorn chicken. You don’t even need to eat it right away as popcorn chicken is easy to reheat later. You need to sign up for the KFC newsletter at least 30 days before your birthday to get the coupon.

  • Marble Slab Creamery

Marble Slab has a Marble Mail newsletter that gives you exclusive offers. They advertise free sweet surprises on your birthday so you might as well sign up. In the past, it’s been a buy one, get one free offer. You need to sign up at least 48 hours before your birthday to get your deals.

Menchie’s

Anyone who has signed up for the Menchie’s app will get a $5 coupon to celebrate your birthday. Menchie’s is self-serve frozen yogurt, so you need to eat it right away.

New York Fries

The NYF Fry Society loyalty program is excellent so I’m not sure why not that many people talk about it. Not only do you earn points with every purchase, but you also get free regular fries on your birthday. As an added incentive, you can get a free poutine when you load your app with $25.

Olive Garden

Getting to the Olive Garden might be a journey since the closest location is in Langley, but if you love this American Italian food chain, it could be worth it. You’ll get a free dessert coupon worth up to $10 when you sign up for their newsletter.

Pajo’s

Pajo’s has some of the best fish and chips in the city, and even better on your birthday. You can get a 2 piece cod and chips, beef burger, or breakfast menu item for free on your birthday when you contact them via their website. To get your free birthday dinner in Vancouver (or lunch), you need to buy a second meal of equal or greater value.

Papa John’s

Papa John’s serves pizza, but on your birthday, you get a free cookie. I’m not talking about an individual cookie, you get the ones that are the size of a small pizza. You need to have the Papa Rewards app for the coupon to arrive.

Pizza Hut

If you collect Pizza Hut’s Hut Rewards, you’ll get a free offer on your birthday. Over the years, the coupon has changed, but people have reported getting free breadsticks and dessert. No purchase was necessary at the time which is nice.

Red Robin

Red has one of the best free birthday meals in Vancouver since you get a free birthday burger. All you need to do is sign up for the Red Robin Royalty program. You can claim one of their gourmet burgers, but not one from their finest line of burgers. Although you can’t stack offers, you also get a free appetizer coupon the day after you sign up for the loyalty program.

Sephora

I know I’ve been focusing on food, but I wanted to give Sephora’s Beauty Insiders a shoutout since they have the best birthday freebies in Vancouver. You get to choose one of the available gifts which can be anything from lipstick to mascara. Since you get about a month to claim your gift, there’s no need to rush things.

Starbucks

You can’t talk about free birthday stuff in Canada without mentioning Starbucks. Starbucks Rewards members get a free birthday drink or food item. Since you can order just about anything, you should be aiming for something that’s expensive. Food isn’t as valuable as drinks, so stick to a beverage. You do need to sign up for Starbucks Rewards at least 7 days in advance to get your drink and the coupon expires the day after your birthday.

Swiss Chalet

Kids aged 10 and under get a free Kid’s Meal on their birthday when dining in at Swiss Chalet. If you look at the website, there’s no mention of a paying adult being mandatory for this offer, but I assume kids aren’t going to Swiss Chalet on their own.

Tim Hortons

The Tim Hortons Rewards app gives you a birthday coupon where you can claim something between 70 and 100 rewards points. This is an okay deal since you have a few different options for redemptions. You need to make at least one transaction in the 12 months prior to your birthday to get the free coupon.

My list of birthday freebies in Vancouver has mostly focused on food, but note that there are also a bunch of retailers that give you free stuff. As mentioned, Body Shop gives you a $10 coupon, but there’s also London Drugs that gives you $5 off. A couple of retailers such as Old Navy, Gap, and American Eagle are also known to send out coupons near your birthday. Be sure to check out my post on birthday freebies in Canada if you’re going to be out of the province on your big day.
