The Cobalt and Business Edge are good cards if you spend a lot of food since you earn more points. That said, if you’re switching your Platinum to one of these cards, you’d be devaluing your points since they earn MR-S points. It might be a better idea to switch to a personal Gold card.

As for US credit cards, they’re almost all better than Canada. Since the US has 10X the population of Canada, they have more people to market to and more competition. That usually means they have better offers. You can’t buy from the U.S. side because they technically have different values.

I’ve had an Amex Platinum for a long time but since I don’t travel as much I wonder how it compares to the Cobalt or Business Edge cards.
I also used to hold a US Amex as well I found the Canadian versus US rewards programs so very different. The US offers a much wider variety of products to chose from. Chadian points can’t buy from the US rewards program……why is that?

They require a new credit check. Really disappointed with this and not clear in how they offer card comparisons.

Just got this card and am disappointed that the points are not convertible to Aeroplan. Amex will not upgrade without a new credit check and new application.
